Brunei For Wushu Date In Macau
Bandar Seri Begawan – The Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation will be sending seven young exponents to participate in the two-day Asian Youth Wushu Championship in Macau from June 5-9.
The exponents are currently undergoing intensive training at the Multi-Purpose Hall Sports Complex in Berakas under the watchful eyes of national coach Li Hui who has been coaching Wushu in Brunei for more than a year.
When asked on Brunei’s chances at the meet the coach said: “This is the first time Brunei U-18 Wushu team is taking part in the competition and it’s a platform to gain experience and exposure.”
He added that it’s also an eye-opener because it’s one of the big games in Asia where we could gain experience and competition skills.
He said among the 20 countries taking part are
China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Laos.
The coach added that Brunei would be taking part in eight categories namely, Chang Quan, Nan Quan, Nan Tao, Nan Gun, Tai Ji Quan, Tai Ji Jian, Dao Shu and Jian Shu.
The Brunei exponents are Abdul Rahim Hj Johari, Dk. Sfriliyana bte Pg Haji Aji, Faustina Woo Wai Sui, Lee Ying Shi, Mohd Sufi Shayiran bin Roslan, Mohd Adi Shayiran bin Roslan and Ang Guat Lian. They are aged between 10 to 17 years old.
Coach Li said Wushu is a new sport in Brunei that started more than a year ago but is gaining ground.
Brunei is also looking forward to participate at the upcoming SEA Games in Laos in December.
“We are still lacking in facilities to train the exponents such as a proper Wushu carpet ground because without this basic facility they are prone to injury while in training”.
