National Inter-Pri Sch Wushu Championship 2009
The National Inter-Primary School Wushu Championship 2009 had started. I was there on the first day.
There wasn’t any marketing effort on the event. Beside the banner on the hall and A4 print-out around the school to direct people to the hall, you can’t see any banner around the school or any media promoting the event.
The event was held at Tao Nan Pri, as usual, with moderate crowed. Not as packed as it used to be. Probably due to lesser event as the Pri Senior was not allow to take part in 3 duan events.
The whole event was very cold. Probably due the air-con that was blowing silently in the hall.
There were definitely a few hot fav, mainly from De Wu Wushu team, as you can hear their cheers seems to be the loudest within the arena. You have to give respect to them and their parent support group. They seems to be able to group the parents like some school parent support group.
See some familiar faces among the crowd. Unexpectedly, I saw a familiar figure. Took a snap shoot but was too far and the image was quite blur. See whether you can make out who he is.
The 3 duan dao (三段刀) at court B has a very bad time. The mic was cranky, breaking up while the head judge was making announcement and many exponent had their score deducted due to missing required movement and starting/ending position wrong. I didn’t hunt for answer but I had a strong feeling that these exponent are acutally from the same troupe, only different schools (btw, each schools are only allow for 2 exponent per event).
This year, MOE had taken over the entire planning of the event, with SWDLF as the technical adviser. Still the event was delayed by almost an hour.
How’s the judge performance for this year? With the new gadget, each judge had a ear-piece hang on to listern from the head judge for any “un-intentional” wrongful display of points (digitally display), but the difference in scores by each judge, still tells the same old story.
Enough of my ranting… below a video for your viewing pleasure. More can be found HERE

look like vincent ng in the photo… i guess many of his wufang students are also in the comp
Bingo… it is Vincent Ng.
Not sure about whether his student is taking part, but after his contact ended with MediaCorp, his appearance within the wushu scene seems more often.
