Ride on with the wind of Wing Chun
From the time Donnie Yan stars in the first Ip Man movie, I had seen and hear many taking up the art of Wing Chun.
The “wind” just continue to blow when Ip Man 2 was screen. Now with The Legend is Born, the wind blow even stronger.
Not sure when it will die off, but I pretty much eager to know: “Why did you pick up Wing Chun after the movie(s) was screen?”.
All the 3 Ip Man film didn’t actually tell the tale of Wing Chun. Nor did it emphasize any thing with regards to the history, development and culture background of Wing Chun. It is purely the life story of Ip Man plus some frictional story board.
I do just hope that you don’t just ride on the wind of Wing Chun, hoping Biew Ji or Chum Kew can help you fence off 10 men and forgotten all about the “roots” of human. More importantly, if you are really keen on the art of Wing Chun, patients and persistence is the only key to fully appreciate and honor it.

i enjoyed both ip man and ip man 2.. not sure about the 3rd one =)
It’s more like a fictional storyboard plus the name and a bit of life story of Ip Man. Don’t get me wrong, the guy’s good at what he does, but i’m not sure that alone is enough to make someone into a cultural hero like what he’s being potrayed to be in the movies.
Why would the title Ip Man show anything else but ip man’s life and his related story. You need to look for the movie called wing chun or yong chun. But with so many lineages, impossible to put it into 1 movie. Even 1 person Fatshan Dr Jan is done in a drama series, and not possible to cover Leung Yi Tai, Wong Wah Bo
As a CMA enthusiast, I love to hear/see stories of our great forefathers that break through all barriers and became a historical figure. But really, no one knows about Ip Man, unless you are in the community. And Ip Man was brought famous to the non-community becos of Bruce Lee, not becos of Wing Chun.
With the 3 movies about Ip Man, there is a sudden growth of student picking up the art of Wing Chun. Its a great promotion for Wing Chun, The concern I share is – if they enrol into the classes, hoping to be like the hero(s) in the movies with some Chi Sao practise, and not knowing what they are really getting into.
